From Daytime TV August 1987

On Santa Barbara, Lane Davies (Mason) and Justin Deas (Keith) are constantly
surrounded by beautiful women. Off screen they’re just as macho as the hot-blooded
heartthrobs they play, but privacy—not publicity—is what they crave most.
Although Lane Davies has never been married, he doesn’t exactly lead a hermit’s life.
According to setside sources, he’s currently dating a beautiful young woman who works
as a make-up artist at Santa Barbara.
Lane’s always had an attraction for backstage romance. At the last Santa Barbara fan
club gathering, he hired a limousine and escorted Kathy Shower, a former magazine pin-
up girl, who had just appeared as Janice (a sultry model) on SB.
Back on Days of Our Lives, where Lane got his start as Evan Whyland, he became
very seriously involved with actress Suzanne Rogers (Maggie). Their romance heated
up shortly after her divorce from actor Sam Groom, and for a time it looked like Lane
and Suzanne might actually tie the knot. But eventually they went their separate ways.
Lane’s castmate Justin Deas has also survived his fair share of romantic hard knocks.
He met his wife Jodi at William and Mary College when they played Katherine and
Petruchio in a campus production of The Taming of the Shrew. When they decided to
elope, they wound up saying their “I do’s” to a justice of peace in North Carolina, who
happened to be a barber. Despite such a colorful beginning, the marriage itself didn’t
survive. The couple who have a daughter, Yvette (now a teenager), were divorced in
the mid 1970s.
But Justin didn’t stay lonely for long. A few years back, while playing Tom Hughes on
As The World Turns, he fell in love with his co-star, Margaret Colin (Margo). Eventually,
she went on to star on Foley Square, playing a dedicated assistant D.A.
Is marriage in their future? As Margaret’s Foley Square character would say, “The jury’s
out on that one.”
Picture Caption 1: Backstage romance is definitely this actor’s style. When Lane Davies
(right) starred on Days of Our Lives, he became devoted to castmate Suzanne Rogers
(below). For a time it even seemed like matrimony might be the next step, but eventually
they broke up. Recently, Suzanne’s been seen around town with her former husband,
actor Sam Groom.
Picture Caption 2: Lane Davies and playboy ‘playmate of the year’ when she appeared
on ‘Santa Barbara’ as a model named Janice Harrison. They became close.
Picture Caption 3: Margaret Colin and Justin Deas fell in love for real when they played
Margo and Tom Hughes—a pair of lovers—on As the World Turns. Today, four years
later, they’re still a very beloved (but unmarried) couple.
Picture Caption 4: When Justin Deas played Bucky Carter on Ryan’s Hope 12 years
ago, he was very much the off-screen family man. But Justin and wife Jodi (right)—who’
d met while co-starring in a college production of Taming of the Shrew—were divorced
soon afterwards. Far right, In 1975 Justin brought his young, Yvette, to a Ryan’s Hope
cast party. He’s always been a devoted dad.
