Candlestick Holders
Video Clip: Candlestick Holders
Time: Gift opening at C.C.'s birthday party.
Characters: Mason, C.C., Santana, Ted, Kelly, Cruz, and Peter (as a silent witness
in this scene).
Premise: Everyone is standing around the gift table watching C.C. open his
presents. He has just opened the one from Pamela and it's a scrapbook. The
cover is opened to the first page.
Kelly: Hmm, is that Pamela with you?
C.C.: Yes, (He picks the book up and thumbs through it,) it
looks like a record of the years we were married.
Mason: Just the good things I trust, or did she chronicle
the rouse as well?
C.C.: (Uneasy chuckle as he closes and puts the book down.) Well, that was very
thoughtful.
Mason: You'll have to remember to dictate a thank you note
to her.
C.C.: I;ll make a point of it.
Santana: (She offers C.C. an unopened gift from the
table
.) C.C., this is from me.
C.C.: Oh, thank you. (He gauges the weight.) Oh! This is heavier than the boots Ted
gave me.
Santana: Well, you're out of luck there.
C.C.: I can't wait to see it. (He opens the package and everyone sees that it contains
two candlestick holders
.)
Kelly: (To Santana.) Aw, they're gorgeous!
Santana: Thank you.
C.C.: Beautiful!
Santana: They're handmade in Mexico.
Ted: Ah, these are terrific, Santana!
C.C.: They really are handsome.
Santana: Thank you, I'm glad you like them.
C.C.: And now I want you to show me a place that I can put these.
Santana: Okay.
C.C.: (To the rest.) Will you all excuse us?
Santana: Come on. (They go off together to find a good spot for the candlestick
Holders.
)
Cruz: (He and Mason step aside together. Cruz looks down inside the glass in his
hand
.) They're steaming up the Champaign glasses.
Mason: (Looking like he could be sick.) I can't believe it. My own father was the man
she was seeing instead of me. How could I have been so stupid not to realize? You
knew that this was going on?
Cruz: I had an inkling. You 'have' been a little slow to catch
on.
Mason: I kept asking her and she wouldn't tell me.
Cruz: You could hardly blame her for wanting it to be
private, can you?
Mason: You could have kept me from making a fool out of myself.
Cruz: Come on, it's not as serious as all that.
Mason: You don't know what's involved.
Cruz: I know a little about it.
Mason: He had to known we dated. We went to the yacht party together.
Cruz: That doesn't mean you had a claim on her.
Mason: Well, he knew I was interested. He knew it!
Cruz: Well, interest isn't a commitment.
Mason: What? I have to get married to
indicate how interested I am?
Cruz: (Chuckles.) Is that what you were
thinking about with Santana, (
uses a
mocking tone
) marriage?
Mason: Never mind, I can't expect you
to understand.
