Get That Gleam Out of Your Eye, Mason
Video Clip: Get That Gleam Out of Your Eye, Mason
Setting: The atrium at the Capwell mansion.
Characters: Mason and Kelly.
Mason: (Talking on the phone to an unknown person.)
Anchorage? Well do have any idea why he was going there?
(
Pause), well do you know where he was going once he got
there? (
Pause) I see. (Pause) No. Well if you find out anything
else let me know right away. (
Pause) All right, thanks. (He
hangs up
.)
Kelly: (Comes through the front door carrying a very large shopping
bag
.) Hi.
Mason: Hi Kelly.
Kelly: Shopping for dad's birthday is the hardest thing in the world.
He has everything.
Mason: You bought all that for dad?
Kelly: Well some of it is for me.
Mason: Hmm, other people's birthdays really bring out the best in you, don't they?
(
Pause,) Kelly, are you still seeing Joe?
Kelly: Yeah.
Mason: I need to talk to him. You think you could arrange it for me?
Kelly: What do you want to talk to him about, Mason?
Mason: Now Kelly, you don't like other people prying into your business. I just want to
have a private conversation with him.
Kelly: Well that's not enough. I need to know why first.
Mason: Oh, does he ask you to screen people before he'll talk to them?
Kelly: The truth is I don't trust you when it comes to
Joe. You'll try to trick him in some way.
Mason: Kelly, I don't know what I did to deserve
that reputation? What about if I promise not to lay a
glove on him?
Kelly: You can't talk to him now anyway because he's out of town.
Mason: He's left Santa Barbara?
Kelly: Get that gleam out of your eye, Mason. He's only gone temporarily.
Mason: Where did he go?
Kelly: He caught a plane this afternoon to a-no, never mind. I'm not going to give you
any information about that either.
Mason: Why not?
Kelly: Because you're too much against him. You know you got an absolute blind spot
when it comes to Joe. And I know if you just happen to find out anything about him you
wouldn't hesitate to use it against him. And I'm not going to help you cause any trouble
for him.
Mason: You have what I would call a case of divided loyalty, Kelly. That's going to
make life very difficult for you in the long run.
Kelly: Mason, I just go around quietly doing what I think is right. It's you and daddy who
create these scenes and cause these arguments. I wish you would just leave me alone.
Mason: Has it occurred to you that it might be because we love you?
Kelly: Look, when I love someone I do what makes them happy.
Mason: Well, supposedly you love Peter. Does it make him happy you're seeing Joe, siding
with him?
Kelly: Look, I don't want to talk about this.
