| Characters: Mason and Veronica Setting: Next scene as Mason and Veronica are sitting on the cough next to each other. Veronica: Mason, I just wouldn't feel right. I'd be afraid that somebody is going to walk in here any minute. Mason: (Acting even drunker than before). Not-not in my bedroom they won't. Veronica: And what if your father comes home unexpectedly. Mason: And wh-what if a neighbor should drop by. Veronica, are you trying to borrow trouble? (Starts nibbling on her ear). Veronica: Oh, speaking of a neighbor, I met one of yours just the other day. Lionel Lockridge. Mason: (Pulls back) I'd rather not talk about Lionel Lockridge, if you don't mind? Veronica: Oh, why? Don't you like him? I thought he seemed awful nice. Mason: No, I don't like him! (Gets up and walks across the room) Our families have hated each other for generations. It goes back to the turn of the century. Veronica: Really? I had no idea. What happened? Mason: The Lockridges did something to the Capwells, then the Capwells retaliated, and ever since then the families haven't had too much to do with each other. I don't know why you bought up his name in the first place. Veronica: Oh, I'm sorry. I had no idea you felt that way. Mason: And now you know. It goes further than that. My father would like to see them driven out of Santa Barbara. Veronica: That's very feudal, and not easy to accomplish in this day and age. Mason: You'd be surprised. I may have figure out a way to help things along. Veronica: Well, how very clever of you, some skeletons from the past? Mason: It has to do with some beachfront property they own, or what they think they own, and I want to give to my father. Dad's had his eye on it for a long time and I can't wait to see his face when I give it to him. He's been trying to pull this off for years. Now, I'm going to do it for him. Veronica: Hmm, I'm impressed. I have a feeling you're not a good man to have as an enemy. Mason: No, I'm not. The Lockridges are going to find that out very quickly. Veronica: When is all this going to happen? Mason: Soon. That's all I can tell you. Veronica: Well, I don't know what this is all about, but I wish you luck, and since the momentum that we had going is no longer there, shall I go home now? Mason: All right. I'll get your coat. Veronica: I'd still like to see you again. Mason: All right, on one condition, that you don't bring up the Lockridge name again. Veronica: No. I learned my lesson. |
