Overnight Guest II
Video Clip: Overnight Guest II
Setting: In the Capwell atrium

Characters: Mason, Peter, Kelly, and Laken

Kelly: I'll get it. (Opens the front door). Hi Laken.

Laken: Hi.

Kelly: Come on in. Let me take this. (Take's Laken's suitcase from her.)

Laken: Thank you.

Kelly: We've been expecting you. Oh, you know my brother, Mason, don't you?

Laken: Oh, sort of, yeah.

Mason: Hello.

Kelly: And my fiancé, Peter Flint.

Peter: Hi, no introductions are necessary. We know each other.

Mason: How's that?

Peter: Well, Laken was a student at Lyman School, very good student.

Laken: Not really.

Peter: Oh, come on, being bright is nothing to be ashamed of.

Kelly: Listen Laken, would like some tea or anything?

Laken: Oh, no thank you, I'm fine.

Kelly: Are you sure?

Laken: No, I've already put you out enough.

Mason: Oh, not at all.

Kelly: Mason's right. It's no trouble at all.

Laken: Oh, thanks, thanks a lot.

Kelly: Look Laken, you can stay here as long as you like. Can't she, Mason?

Mason: Oh, Absolutely!

Kelly: So, do you want to come on up and I'll show you your room?

Laken: Okay. (To Mason and Peter as she follows Kelly). Oh, thank you, um, good night.

Mason: Good night.

Peter: Sleep well.

Mason: (To Peter) I wish somebody would tell me what's going on here. How it happens that a
Lockridge girl is spending the night in our home?

Peter: Well, Mason. What could Kelly do?

Mason: Well, I don't know. I don't know why she telephoned here in the first place. Doesn't she
have any friends?

Peter: Maybe not. Laken's a bit shy.

Mason: Peter, don't you realize that this girl's parents and grandparents have spent half their lives
trying to ruin us, the entire family. I find it outrageous that we're now harboring one of their children.
They've caused enough problems without sending an embassy in the form of a 17-year-old girl to
cause more.

Peter: Well, you might be right, Mason, but I think Kelly's just trying to be gracious.

Mason: Peter! This goes beyond manners! These are people who have tried to pore everything
we ever stood for.

Kelly: (Returning) in case you haven't noticed, your voices carry. Can you hold it down a little,
please?

Mason: How long is she staying here.

Kelly:
I don't know. Probably just the night.

Mason: Well, I think you better find out, Kelly. I think you're asking for nothing but trouble.

Kelly: Mason, will you calm down, please? I need your help.

Mason: My help?

Kelly: I need someone to help me explain this to daddy. If you could just sit down and help explain
the situation.

Mason: Explain the situation! Kelly, I don't approve of the situation.

Kelly: I know you don't, but someone has to make daddy understand.

Mason: Kelly, someone has to make me understand. I'm not explaining anything to dad. He's not
going to like this, and neither do I. You're on your own.
