There'll Be Another Day
Video Clip: There'll Be Another Day
Setting: At a bar
Characters: Mason, Cruz, Joe, and a policeman
Premise: Cruz found Joe to warn him that Mason is going to have him questioned.
Cruz: (To Joe, as Mason approaches with a police officer) Joe, we got company. Now
you be cool and let me do the talking. You hear me. You be cool.
Mason: See you found your friend, Cruz. I knew you would, so I had you followed.
Cruz: Back off, Mason!
Mason: Back off? I'm here representing the people of Santa Barbara County, so I advise you
to mind your tongue.
Cruz: And what have the good people of Santa Barbara County sent you down to do?
Mason: I think you know. I'm taking Perkins in for questioning.
Cruz: What are the charges?
Mason: Why don't you cut the lawyer pose?
Cruz: What are the charges?
Mason: I don't need any.
Cruz: Got to have something.
Mason: A complaint will do.
Cruz: Who's complaining?
Mason: I am.
Cruz: About what?
Mason: He attacked my sister.
Cruz: Really? You were there? You saw it?
Mason: I didn't have to.
Cruz: So, Kelly is making the complaint?
Mason: (Exhales and then says to the cop)
Take him. (
Indicating Joe)
Cruz: (Stands up and gets between the cop and
Joe
). Wait a minute! I think Joe deserves to hear the
complaint against him. Now, what happened? And
when? Surely Kelly must have told you, or signed a
statement, perhaps?
Mason: You're wrong, Castillo. I don't need anything like that.
Cruz: I think it would be a real good ideal for you to get one. Otherwise this whole thing is
going to look like a rap, and that's what we're going to tell the press.
Mason: And who's going to believe Joe Perkins?
Cruz: Joe doesn't have to say a word because I'm going to do the talking, Mason. You
can bet they'll listen. It's one of the advantages of being a local hero. Everyone knows
that the Capwells hate Joe Perkins; they're out for revenge. Assistant D.A., Mason
Capwell, would bust Joe for nothing.
Mason: This isn't a bust.
Cruz: (Full of bluster). You got no hard evidence. I think bust is what's going in the six
o'clock news. Joe Perkins, busted, harassment charges against the D.A.'s office. Not that
great for the old political career, Mason. It will be all over the headlines that you're blinded
by your personal involvement in this case, a massive witch hunt.
Mason: You're bluffing.
Cruz: (Looking tough) Call me.
Mason: (Glares at Cruz for a moment). Let's go (directed to cop). (Gets in Cruz.s personal
space and stares him in the eye
) There'll be another day, Castillo. My day. (Turns and
leaves the bar)
(Cruz wipes his brow.)
