Time: Later during the same day

Setting: The Capwell mansion.

Characters: C.C. and Mason

Premise: Mason is sitting at a table in the atrium watching the news when C.C. enters the room. They talk about the Capwell oilrig fire that's in progress and on the news, and then C.C. starts to leave.

Mason: Uh, Dad.

C.C.: Hmm?

Mason: Could I--could I have a word with you?

C.C.: Is it urgent?

Mason: Well, it can wait.

C.C.: Go ahead, Mason.

Mason: Well, I just...umm, I wanted to apologize. I overreacted when I walked out of the party.

C.C.: Everybody makes mistakes now and then, Mason. And I do. (C.C. sits down at the table next to Mason). Damn it I know I shouldn't have left everything up to the subcontractors. We examined the wells along the line-

Mason:--No, no, now you can't blame yourself, dad.

C.C.: (Glances at the TV set). They make me out a villain.

Mason: Well, I predict you'll solve the problem and come out a hero. You always do.

C.C.: (Smiles at Mason) I hope so. Mason, I appreciate the apology, but don't let insignificant things like a slip of tongue take over your life. Stand tall. Be a man.
