Handsome Dog
Video Clip: Handsome Dog
Time: The morning after the previous transcript
Setting: The Capwell mansion.
Characters: Mason and Kelly
Premise: Mason returns home after being out all night. As he comes through the
door, Kelly spots him.
Kelly: (Standing at the foot of the staircase buttoning the
cuffs of her blouse
) Look at you.
Mason: (Leaning against the front door) Handsome dog, huh.
Kelly: You have been out all night.
Mason: Did you check my bed to see if the sheets are
wrinkled?
Kelly: Yes.
Mason: And...
Kelly: They weren't
wrinkled.
Mason: (Laughs, and walks over to the foot of the staircase and leans against the wall)
Bravo, good deduction, great insight, you should be a private investigator or something.
Kelly: Are you all right?
Mason: Yeah, I'm fine. I'm slightly hung over.
Kelly: You don't look fine.
Mason: Possibly that's because I had one wild and woolly evening.
Kelly: Wild and woolly?
Mason: As in animalistic. As in bestial.
Kelly: Well, are congratulations in order, or what?
Mason: No! (Sits down at the foot of the stairs) Yet, congratulations because I was
able to enjoy an evening with a lady our father disapproves of. And doing anything that
our father disapproves of and enjoying it, deserves congratulations, don't you think?
Kelly: Well, I can't tell if you're being funny, or being bitter.
Mason: (Pauses and looks thoughtful) neither can I.
Kelly: (Sits down next to her brother) Mason, I know the party last night was hard on you.
Mason: Hard on me. Well, I survived it.
Kelly: Look, daddy just made a slip
Mason: Sure.
Kelly: You don't believe that?
Mason: Maybe you should be on your way. Where
you going?
Kelly: To see Peter.
Mason: Good. Give him a nice little kiss and be
happy.
Kelly: Mason, what can I do?
Mason: Nothing.
Kelly: Daddy didn't mean anything.
Mason: You don't want to know.
Kelly: Yes, I do.
Mason: He called me Channing. Right?
Kelly: By mistake.
Mason: Now, Channing is my late half brother, your 100%
brother.
Kelly: It was just a slip.
Mason: No, because dad has always wished that I was
Channing.
Kelly: No.
Mason: Maybe you do too.
Kelly: Ah, that's not so.
Mason: I have, for years, chosen to believe that it would be alright for Mason Capwell, to
be, Mason Capwell. Somehow it isn't.
Kelly: Mason, we all love you.
Mason: I don't think I want to get into this.
Kelly: Mason, believe me.
Mason: I believe and I know with a painful certainty, that dad would give anything if I
could by some magic turn myself into Channing. He had all his hopes and dreams
pinned on Channing. And no matter what I do, I'm a poor substitute.
Kelly: How can you say that?
Mason: Maybe because I am bitter, or maybe because I'm full of paranoia and disillusions,
and maybe...because it's true.
